They're three technical means of persuasion, and Aristotle does not treat them as equals — though the text pulls both ways: Book I chapter 1 calls the enthymeme the substance of rhetorical persuasion, while chapter 2 calls character almost the most effective means of proof. Kairos doesn't appear as a fourth mode at all; he consistently affirms only three.
