It is credited to the Italian film director Federico Fellini (1920–1993). Quote collections cite Federico Fellini: Interviews, edited by Bert Cardullo (University Press of Mississippi, 2006), p. 180, but the original interview has not been traced, so we list it as attributed. An Italian wording, “Un linguaggio diverso è una diversa visione della vita”, circulates, cited by Italian Wikiquote to the magazine Telepiù (no. 26, June 2012) — long after his death, and without the interview it came from.
What it means
Each language carries its own way of seeing — what it names, what it notices, how it divides up time, feeling and relationships. Learning another one is not just learning new labels; it gives you another angle on life.
Where it comes from
The line is everywhere in language-learning material, always credited to Fellini. The citation most collections give is a page in a 2006 English-language anthology of his interviews; we have not been able to see that page, and no one we can find names the original interview or its date. Italian Wikiquote gives the Italian as “Un linguaggio diverso è una diversa visione della vita”, citing a 2012 issue of the TV magazine Telepiù, not the interview itself.
Until those turn up, the fair label is “attributed”: there is no evidence against Fellini, but not yet enough to call it sourced.
